Samoan facts

 National flag consists of a red field (background) with a blue canton incorporating the Southern Cross constellation in white. The flag's width-to-length ratio is 1 to 2.  Introduced on May 26, 1948, the new Samoan flag was red with four white stars on a blue canton; on February 24, 1949, a fifth star was added . The traditional culture of Samoa is a communal way of life based on Fa'a Samoa, the unique socio-political culture. The traditional living quarters, or fale (houses), contain no walls and up to 20 people may sleep on the ground in the same home During the day, the home is used for chatting and relaxing. The artwork and designs go beyond being skin deep there is history and deep meanings behind them. The tattoo and designs of the Samoa islands represents community, power, status, respect, honor, and is a mark of pride that are only to be worn by Samoans.
